to providing charitable services for children, youth,
and elderly residents of the greater Houston community.
The activities of the following programs and organizations
are supported through the year by HJF volunteers.
HJF
maintains a resale shop that provides affordable previously
owned household items, furniture and clothing to the
community.
Proceeds from the shop support the operating
budgets of HJF projects. Volunteers assist employees
in pricing, sorting, arranging items on the sales floor
and working the cash register. Volunteer hours 9:00
– 2:30. Volunteers may assist with Heights community
festivals that HJF elects to participate in annually.
This program provides scholarships and
assistance for the best qualified high school graduates
who have attended the HJF Community House Preschool.
Volunteers assist with a reception for students in August
and a luncheon for scholarship recipients and their
parents in January. HJF members can also support this
program by helping develop funds through the “Scholarship
Angels” program.
A faith-based, nonprofit organization
formed in 1989 to reach out and rebuild at-risk youth
and families in the Spring Branch area. Cornerstone
offers tutoring and mentoring programs for students,
summer camp for children, family support services and
adult enrichment classes.
Assistance to low-income families through
education, emotional wellness and spiritual enrichment
programs. Provides schooling for preschoolers through
high school, parenting programs and adult education programs.

and youth in the greater Houston area.
Houston Junior Forum members partnered with community
volunteers the week of September 12 and October 4 in the
first of three fall “See to Succeed” programs
initiated by the City of Houston Department of Health
and Human Services. The events, held at a centrally located
clinic, screened and provided eyeglasses to approximately
1,000 students.
This program in Katy offers seniors a chance
to take a wide variety of classes and enjoy activities,
parties and trips. Volunteers serve in all areas, times
vary depending on the activity.
This service is provided through the First
United Methodist Church of Katy and Memorial Hermann Katy
Hospital. Volunteers collect meals from the hospital and
deliver them to senior citizens at noon.
The Senior Guidance Directory is a one-of-kind
resource of useful and vital information critical to the
well-being of Houston’s seniors and their care-givers.
It is distributed free through Walgreen’s pharmacies
and various help centers, nursing homes and church ministries.
HJF produced the directory for 10 years
and this is now done by Senior Guidance Directory, Inc.
Volunteers help with information verification, distribution
and other areas as requested.
A national antique show and sale held twice
each year. HJF volunteers work in various shifts for one
day in the ticket booth. HADA makes a financial contribution
to HJF in return for our support.
